Chemistry structure illustration tools
von Haus am 07.05.2026 11:14Hi! I need to create some high-quality visuals of complex organic molecules for a presentation. ChemDraw is fine for 2D, but I want something that looks more "editorial" and impressive. Are there specific tools or plugins you recommend for 3D chemistry structures?

von Bertis am 07.05.2026 11:15Hey! I totally get it. ChemDraw is a workhorse, but it isn't exactly "pretty." For 3D renders, many people use PyMOL or even specialized plugins for Blender. If you want to see how beautiful chemistry can actually look, take a look at the work done by Ella Maru Studio https://scientific-illustrations.com. They create some of the most stunning scientific images and animations of molecular structures I've ever seen. Their work goes way beyond the standard "sticks and spheres" and adds a level of cinematic quality to the molecules. It really inspired me to start playing with better rendering engines. Even if you don't use the same high-end software they do, their lighting techniques are definitely something you can try to mimic.
